Anyone used to get their dad soap-on-a-rope for this birthday? (Am I showing my age?? Do they even make that anymore??)
Don’t worry – this is a soap your man will love. Nothing at all like the ol’ soap-on-a-rope stuff. I don’t know about the men in your life – but mine will use any soap sitting around. If I give him soap that’s better for him and his skin, he uses it. That makes me happy.
Here’s a little backstory to my soap making – I’ve got sensitive skin. And, most artificial fragrances give me headaches. Even a stroll through the perfume department can make head throb. So, I like to make my own soaps or at least buy all natural, organic soaps and lotions.
Plus, soap making is fun. I didn’t think I’d like it as much as I do, but there’s something so rewarding about using homemade soap in the shower. I’ve even had a bunch of girlfriends over to make soap. We have so much fun – and there’s no end to the type of soap molds you can buy. My kids love the special soap shapes.
Note in the pic that one bar is clear and the other is a darker honey color. The darker bar has a tablespoon of honey in it. Honey is amazing for the skin – I couldn’t resist adding it to this recipe along with tea tree, which may also support healthy looking skin.
This soap smells amazing! Oh my goodness.
I used a glycerine-based shaving soap for this recipe. Most glycerine-based soaps don’t lather like the soaps you buy in the store because they have synthetic ingredients that help create the suds. This soap lathers better than others, which makes it great for shaving.

I have tried all different types – goats milk, glycerine, oatmeal, shea butter. Have you made soap before? Do you have a favorite?
