Naturally Sweet & Gluten-Free by Ricki Heller
One of the biggest hurdles in the gluten-free baking world is making substitutions. Since I started this blog years ago, that’s the one constant. You need to know how to make the recipe work for your diet. Whether it’s eggs, dairy, soy or some other food category, each of us have individual food needs. Well, Naturally Sweet & Gluten-Free by Ricki Heller will work for just about everyone. Ricki’s recipes are gluten-free, refined sugar-free and vegan, so they’re also dairy-free and egg-free. She’s also mindful of other dietary needs, and labels each recipe so you know if it fits your diet immediately. Each recipe is carefully labeled soy-free, corn-free, nut-free and/or grain-free.
Though this is a dessert cookbook, Ricki focuses on healthier food. You can trust that each dish is infused with nutrient-rich, foods and healthy fats.
Ricki also invests heavily in the first 41 pages of her book to help you learn about how the recipes work and how you can be successful in the kitchen. She chooses each ingredient with a specific intention and she helps you understand what that ingredient does. It’s almost like Ricki’s right there with you in the kitchen, making sure that your time and energy produces the best possible results. This has always been one of the things I appreciate most about Ricki – she’s not only brilliant when it comes to food but she’s a top-notch teacher.
In Naturally Sweet & Gluten-Free, you’ll find 100 recipes for any occasion – including Chocolate Mint Chocolate Chip Cookies, Vegan Cheesecake, Lemon Blueberry Scones, Raw Chocolate Fudge-Topped Brownies, Caramel Ice Cream and more.

Ricki Heller is the voice behind the popular food blog rickiheller.com, which celebrates sugar-free, gluten-free, allergy-friendly, vegan whole foods through an anti-candida lifestyle. With over 700 foolproof recipes, humorous anecdotes and comments from two chatty canines, the blog illustrates Ricki’s philosophy that “a healthy lifestyle can be sweet.” In 2011, Ricki’s blog was nominated for the SHAPE Magazine “Best Healthy Eating Blog” awards; as a “Best Healthy Cooking Blog” by The Kitchn” in 2013; and for a Canadian Weblog Award in 2013.
After being diagnosed with IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) at age 23, Ricki began to change her eating habits and realized how much the food we eat influences our health. She was diagnosed with Candida Related Complex (CRC) in 1999 and followed the anti-candida diet for three years, eradicating all symptoms. That led her to pursue studies as a holistic nutritionist to learn more about the healing power of foods; she obtained her Registered Holistic Nutritionist designation (RHN) from the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition, where she graduated summa cum laude and was Valedictorian.
Following a second bout with the condition in 2009, Ricki returned to the diet and realized she’d have to change her eating habits forever. These days, she shares her anti-candida friendly recipes via cooking classes across the Toronto area as well as through her blog and books. She’s determined to show people that an anti-candida diet is not only doable, but can even be enjoyable; and that you can succeed on the diet while still living in the real world. In 2016, Ricki was a finalist for one of five Canadian Holistic Nutrition Awards (national awards for holistic nutritionists in Canada).
