The holidays are always a great time to cook, gather with friends, relax, and enjoy life.
Memorial Day is more than just a day off of work, though. It’s a day to remember all those who given their lives while helping to create and preserve our nation’s freedom. It’s too bad that such a price has to be paid to be free.
When I was flying home from Nourished there were about 35 young men in Navy uniforms flying out to their base. It was 5:00 in the morning. Each soldier had on a perfectly pressed uniform and beautifully shined shoes. They flew coach though I thought that they should have all been upgraded to first class.
As I watched them find their seats on the plane, I thought of my little Nate and how one day he will have the option to serve his country. My eyes welled up with tears as I thought of their mothers and how they must be so proud and so scared all at once. It’s not only the soldiers who sacrifice, but their families do as well.
Joe and I will be grilling out and sharing food with friends over the weekend. But, take time to remember all those who have fallen in war and those who are currently defending our country.
Here are some dishes you’ll enjoy while honoring the men and women who have allowed us to remain free.
